With our first wave or research down, time to shift gears. Mind Mapping or Word Webs are a simple, visual, and tactile way to organize what we’ve learned. We used to use notecards to organize research (RCFs ultimately replacing them), but Mind Maps are a simple tool to lay out all of your research and see where tendencies or weaknesses exist. We began class with this activity to organize our research so far:
Combined with our “Word Association” search terms from Tuesday, students have a broader set of search terms and categories to begin exploring.
Our public libraries are the next step to explore. The Chicago Tribune (or ProQuest) alone is a fantastic resource to use, but each library has different tools to use. With our students in three different municipalities, here are the links you need, with what the pages look like:
