Lewis and Clark Expedition

The topic of today’s class was the Louisiana Purchase and its effect on the new American nation. Most of us have heard of Lewis and Clark who with their band of companions and their guide, Sacagawea, were able to explore the new land that the United States purchased from France. Today in class we took some notes about this, and tomorrow we will look at a primary source, Tocqueville’s writings about America in the 1830s, to examine the impact that westward expansion had on the Native American populations in the United States.
