Ideas on Helping our Community

Students should research ideas (try google news!), and post here. Leave the link where you located the problem with the idea you have, too.

Remember: problem AND a potential solution!

Hey Mr. L i found a article on elderly people feeling abandoned by their family when brought to nursing homes. I think we could help by doing something like memory makers and go to the nursing homes and visit the elderly people. they might get the feeling of love and care like they need especially if their family doesn’t go see them often and also i think students like to hear stories of old people and me personaly they are pretty funny

teen birth rate is 72 babies per 1,000 girls ages 15-119 in dupage… compared to 36 per 1,000 across the state…. nd a chlamydia rate of 514 per 100,000, compared to 405 statewide, the health

  3. Since 2007 the population of families and people in poverty increased. Now there are more than 400,000 people in poverty who need help. I think we should donate and give food more so those people can survive. Also, we can build them shelters and homes so they aren’t cold in the night or at any time. We could also spend more time with them so they are not lonely and feel like nothing.

  4. Hunter Himes

And we could also raise money for them and see what they want a park, a bird cage, a fish tank, new wheel chairs, whatever they need we could help. As you know fundraisers at this school are always big turnouts!!!

I found a really cool website about helping homeless people. This think this place does all kind of cool stuff to help them by giving them places to live and giving them food.

Hi,something that we can do to help make Dupage a better county is trying to stop domestic violence. Every year children and spouses get abused and its terrible. So to help them out we can donate sweatpants to the shelter that they r staying at. since some ppl that r abused stay at shelters. and yeah i cant rlly think of anything else but domeshttp://www.dupageco.org/emplibrary/10%20March%20Faith%20Subcommittee%20Newsletter%20-%20Ideas%20for%20the%20month%20of%20April.pdftic violence, child abuse, and sexual abuse is bad.

I found an article about a plan to stop gang violence. It seems like it will help stop the violence. This is very important for our cities and towns. We need to be safe!

  9. i found this site where you can just say your cause, who, and how long and it gives you a bunch of ideas on ways you can help your community.

without gang violence cities will be more safe for children so the chicago police should take out all the gangs and drugs. but that would be hard so they should call in the army

    Hi Mr Little!
im so happy i passed lol! what we can do for the comunity is we can volenteer at like an animal shelter or something!

  15. Evan B

walk through your neighborhood and just ask people if they need help with any yardwork, cleaning, etc.

okay, so like i learned about this a long time ago, but theres this website that shows exactly where sex offendors, rapists, offense against children, sexual battery, etc. its really cool/scary because you get to see EXACTLY where they live… all you have to do is type in your address, and hundreds of predators NEAR YOU will pop up. its a good way to help make kids more aware of their surroundings, and to be careful where they go and what they do.. you’d be surprised on how many sex offenders live near you.. not to scare you or anything, but you should check it out.. heres the URL. :

well instead of building something & stop midway and leave it there we could build a quick place for kids to have fun and be safe too.

by my house there is a that has been there for like five years and there is like a kiddy park and then like a bigger kid park…… y not just havee one park so that everyone can just share also they just built another park literally 1/4th of a mile away from the other one…. y do that r ppl that lazy that they cant just ride their bikes or walk like 200 yds???? so when they built this new park i heard that it was very expensive and when ive gone for a bike ride i havent seen anyone there so they pretty much just wasted 10000 bucks building a park no one uses should not be there so they should have either just spent money on adding on to the other park or by the tennis courts at the park they can add bball courts a roller hockey rink a baseball field or a soccer field heck if they wanted to they could probally a dog park for all of the ppl who have dogs in that neighbor hood or even a pool a pool would be awesome so i think that our citizens of where i live should help the community by petitioning to take down the park and make the other one even better

on the intersection of james and bouton there is a very large pile of dirt. we can flatten or move the dirt to a diffrent area to make a homless shelter, a place for abused pets, a super cool sports complex, or we can plant trees. But i think everyone here wants the sports complex

  20. Stephanie W

There is this little park on our street that no one goes to, if we could change some things about it it will still have a purpose again. kids will go to it again!

  21. Katie S.

At my church they are always saying how they need food for their food pantry for the poor if a lot of kids donated a lot of food I think it would help a lot of people who aren’t as lucky as we are.

  22. eric bennett

in the area by coosco that large area we can rebuild the forest or make a place for war veterans or just us soilders. or a sports complex

The park by my house no one uses. Why can”t they make like basketball courts and soccer fields so when they have practices they have actual nets. I think they should like knock down the park so we have more room for these things that people actually want.:/

  26. Sheryl J.

We can help our neighbors walk there dogs and help paint there house. During fall and winter we can rake there leaves or help shovel there driveway.

  27. kyle m

if they add basketball courts at the westminster park then we will get more active by having basketball games.

are u kidding me i see people at the park all the time when i ride my bike past it

  29. Cameron

In our every day lives we hurt our atmosphere. We can do little things to help save it. If we sometimes just rode our bikes to places that can help a lot. Saving elctricity can also help to. If we are not using an appliances we should unplug them. Growing trees can reduce the gases in the air. It is very important that we all take our part in saving our atmosphere. Another thing that we should already be doing in our homes is recycling.

We should start recycling more. I am in make a difference club and when i do recycling on Friday i see all of this paper that is unused in garbage cans! When we throw something out we should think about what we are getting rid of. If we think ‘Is this something that I can recycle?’ then we could be saving a lot more trees and energy! Also, when we recycle trash then we should also be thinking is this garbage? Or recyclable?

i think it is a good i dea for Japan to stop pumping bad water into the ocean, bacuase it is dangerous and people could get sick from it.

  33. my artical takes in the perspective of air quality, smoking and obesity rates, life span and how well people feel. I think they should take away smoking because it would solve alllllll of these problems i’ve said so if they take away smoking in poverty it will help peoples health and economy because those people will not be wasting there money one cigarettes instead they will buy food for there family

  34. zack j

i like joe s idea of taking away child abuse i think that will help bring down fight levels for people this age because we wouldnt have seen that from our parents and think its ok

  35. Austin R

i agree with zack, smoking she be permenatly banned,a few reasons are, why would people spend there own money for something that will make you sick? thats like going to the hospital having a man with swine flu rapidly cough on you. My grandpa during winter break had a stroke, when they doctors found out why he had a stroke the main reason was smoking, and he nearly escaped death. and after he knew smoking did that to him he has been smoke free ever since. so smoking should be permanatly banned!!!

  36. Micah G.

I think that we should try harder to protect forest preserves in our area. I don’t have any specific sources, but I saw an article on the news about how companies are using money to push the boundaries of forest preserve areas inward so that the companies can use the realistate to build fast-food restaurants that are greasy and unhealthy for people. It also said that the companies will sometimes build factories that will pollute the forest preserves and bring more people to the area which means more trash and poisonous gases. In conclusion, I think it would be better for everyone if the district used more money to protect the forest preserves by maybe making a law that states either, “factories cannot be build within a — mile radius”, or maybe, “companies cannot intrude on protected forest land unless they plant more protected trees and the land is used for the common good of the district”.

Quickly think about this. If smoke is putting a hole in the ozone then how fast will that hole grow if people continue to smoke?

    http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/news/x1161116581/Downers-Grove-officer-spots-one-of-county-s-most-wanted

The only person who commented on this article at the time I read it said that it was pretty sad that the person who was arrested had to walk up to the police officer for him to realize that who the criminal was. The fact that he probably wasn’t paying much attention in the first place in order not to notice the guy makes me wonder whether or not our police officers are actually protecting us.

Although I don’t know about Downers Grove, I’m fairly sure that they’re planning to lower the amount of police officers patrolling Darien. Despite the fact that we had someone commit suicide down the street from my house a couple of months ago (though I don’t really think that we could have really done much about that), maybe a house or two broken into in the past few years… I also heard that people also were leaving bombs around the place in coke bottles. Still don’t know if that was true or not.

I know that is whY the state should ban smoking from everywere except in their houses or make it ellegal

My article is about how Elmhurst’s forest preserves are littered with trash. It explains that Elmhurst needs to takeaction and clean up their community. Some people volunteered to halp with the mess. The Park District will be providing trash bags, and pick up for the citizens who help clean up. I think this is a good idea because today, our and if we all work together we can save our planet!
    http://elmhurst.patch.com/articles/roll-up-your-sleeves-and-help-clean-up-the-path Earth keeps gettingmorepoluted

  41. HANNAH S

I found an article on homeless people. Its really sad, but anyway the rate of homeless people in Lombard is pretty high. PADS IS working to build more homeless shelters for homeless people. Their shelters include meals, sleeping space, and support activities. I think people should be working more to help others in need since there are so many of them, especially children

  42. Ally

we should help make our parks cleaner and help older people cross the street so they don’t DIE!!

  43. Yvonne S

Hey! Last year, Miss Coppoletta showed us a website to help feed people rice by answering trivia questions(10 grains/per right answer):

    http://www.freerice.com

HELP END WORLD HUNGER!! THESE AREN’T HARD QUESTIONS!!!

  44. yah!!!! save the planet stop the smokers help the angry old people cross the street!we should all do these things more often instead of just letting them happen!

  45. Jasmine Thalia Maldonado

We should help older people cross the street and help this earth to stay cleaner!! And if some one needs help… help them out to cross the street so they won’t die!! And if you see garbage on the floor or something pick it up so THIS earth can stay clean, healthy, and FRESH!!!(: :D

DuPage has the lowest voter turnout in election history. I think that this is a major problem because if nobody votes than our leaders can have horrible plans and make bad decisions, and all we can do is complain. I think that DuPage should let people know just how important voting is, and they should push the idea of voting and make it seem more appealing to the part of us who are not voting. Whether that be through a friendly competition or entertainment, it doesn’t matter what how they draw people in, just as long as they draw people in to vote.

What we can do to help the community, is to help stop bullying. Every 2 of 3 Teens are bullied everyday. Bullying can lead to serious situations, starting from a simple detention to a serious suicide. Bullying isn’t funny and should be taken care of. Here are a few things we as students can do to help bullying at school.

    http://www.dosomething.org/actnow/actionguide/how-to-strengthen-your-schools-bullying-policy

We should help stop bullying. So don’t just sit there! Go out and stop bullying!

  48. Lara P.

“Du Page County Sees Lowest Overall Voter Turnout in Consolidated Election History”
In the recent Du Page county election, only 16.4 percent of people eligible there voted! In past elections, about 18-20 percent have voted in Du Page, and now it’s down to 16.4. A way to fix this may be to remind people that it’s their duty to vote. Maybe put more advertisements up for the next election.

I was looking for promblems when i saw that there was 12 sex offenders in a 2 mile radius of this school I think this should not be right because there is little kids that could walk home i think that there should be a 5 mile radius around schools so the kid can walk home without be worried about seeing or being approached by a sex offender

    My Findings

    1. an artice about animal obesity around these parts, but that was an April Fools article

    2. An article about how a man was told that if he switched insurance companies he’d only have to pay for the new one, and he even sighned a contract, but it was a hoax and he was charged for both. The people who tricked him have a bit of a history with this kind of thing, so I think that the government should either give them a warning, or permanantly shut them down. Kids at our school could write letters to the government, and if they got enough, they’d probably do something.

  51. Megan S

whoops I messed up i meant to say we waste so much energy. Making your house more green could help conserve a lot. Making a few simple changes could really help out. sorry

  52. The luekemia and lymphoma society started the pennies for patients campaign where students and schools can collect change and donate it, and the money goes towards finding the cure for blood cancer and helping people with leukemia and lymphoma

  53. bradley m p8

last year my neibors barn burnt down and the fire fighters had to go to the neiboring street which meant they had to call another fire truck for there was not enough hose and the barn ended up burning down because it took so long to get water over. this could have been avoide if we had afire higrent

  54. I think if we had block parties and got to know our neighbors better we could do things for our community and neighborhood by cleaning up the neighborhood, forming a group of people and helping in a soup kitchen or some organizations to help the community or world such as helping Japan.

  55. Brian.z

for all the shooting i think that we should make a law that you should be a united states resident to own a gun and their should be an age limit and we should make gun harder to gethttp://www.suntimes.com/news/crime/4725114-418/five-shot-in-humbolt-park-on-west-side.html.

  56. Sara F

Voting could be 2 days instead of one so people have more time to vote. Then, the voting turn out in DuPage would most likely be higher.

  57. Leanna I p.8

Another idea is we can recycle more& have those garbage cans they have a some airports that have a paper, plastic, and waste compartment. if we had something like this at home it would help people organize their trash.

  58. Georgia B.

There are some places in the U.S. and other countries where a lot of national disasters happen. Like the oil spills or wild fires. There are kids that want to help out but don’t have enough time. And there are others that just don’t care because there’s no “prize” and it’s a waste of their time or something. But have you seen those oil spill commercials? Like the sad ducks? Omg those like make me cry! Anyway, I think there should be a place where you go and tell people how many hours of community service you want and they give you a punch card. After you do at least ten hours of community service, you can “cash in” your time. Then you can get like a twenty dollar gift card to a restaurant of your choice since that is a lot of time. As you do more hours, you get better prizes. For example, if you do fifty hours of community service, you can get like a one hundred dollar visa card. And if you do like one hundred hours which sound crazy but some people do, you might even get like an iPod!!!!

  59. Anthony M

I think we should have a better way of voting like to vote from your home. Not alot of people vote and they should it is one thing we can do to make a better government. If people voted from their home it would save them gas and they would not have to get off of their lazy butt and VOTE!!!!!!!

  60. Meg W

Dupage was ranked one of the healthiest counties in the state of IL. The rankings, which cover counties in all 50 states, were developed by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which is a university in Wisconsin, that is devoted to population, and health. The model has two separate rankings, including evaluations of actual health and potential health levels DuPage ranked second in actual health and first in potential health. This tells me that we, the people of Dupage, should keep up our cleanly habits and inform other counties about how they can keep there county clean.

  61. Georgia B.

I think that there should be little contest-like things in the summer where you can compete in a group of friends against others. Like a contest where whichever group makes the most money at a lemonade stand wins a prize, and then all the money made gets donated to a charity or a place in need of help, like Japan.

  62. Leanna I p.8

Adding to the garbage thing, i think putting more trash cans around streets and in the city will make people throw there garbage in the trash because they are closer and aren’t like 40ft away and not just throw it on the street or in the grass.

  63. Patrick M

We could donate money to schools, park districts, and forest preserves to build benificial thingssuch as a new building, recreational parks, baseball and soccer feilds, and basketball courts. Also we could start up clean up groups to clean up local areas such as parks, forests and schools to leave a litter free enviornment. We could also be provided with separate plastic, glass, metal, and paper recycleing bins to promote recycleing.

    http://downersgrove.patch.com/articles/an-uneven-playing-field

  64. Jacqualine

I get really mad when people think they’re doing good when they put plastic in the recycling bins. Then on Wednesday and Friday mornings when my friends and I go around most of the school recycling we have to pick out all of the plastic water bottles, bags, wrap, and everything that’s not paper or cardboard. Also use a GARBAGE CAN for your chewed up gum! Gosh people!

  65. Georgia B.

I think that it should be mandatory for any family to have a security system because some of the less fortunate families with like ten kids may not be able to afford one and may be robbed one day. And what are they gonna do to protect them selves and ten kids?

  66. Jack V.

I found out that 6.5% of families in DuPage are below the federal poverty line for income. I was shocked that 59459 people are in poverty in DuPage alone. I think that we should donate more to organizations that help with underprivileged families.

I also found that some places in DuPage are offering free computer recycling. I think more people should take advantage of it because some computers are hazardous to the environment if not disposed of properly.

I think that if people donated more to local organizations and recycled more, DuPage county would be a better place.

  67. Saima K.

At our church, we have this group that goes and volunteers in the neighborhood. For example, we went to Feed My Starving Children in Naperville and packed food for those who don’t have it. Also, in my Saturday classes, grades 7-12 went to pack dry food for the people in Pakistan, after an earthquake(I think). We could do that to. We could also do programs like the Penny War that will start on the 11th.
Also at our classes, we gather canned and boxed food and the class that has the most amount of items gets an ice cream party. we could try that!!

  68. Emily B

I read an article about a Lemont women charged for driving under the influence and for possession of cocaine. I think schools in our county should have more discussions on Drug and alcohol use and its effects on a person. Educating students more on these harmful substances could possibly decrease the number of users. Students need to know how these substances effect their bodies.

  69. Georgia B.

I also think that once every week or every other week, every house in a neighborhood should try having a five minute period of turning off the lights to save energy and money.

  70. WILLY H

I think we should have a dumpster or something at someones house. There will be no one living there of course so we could just open the door and throw our trash in. The only problem is that the house might get a little stinky cause there is so much trash but im sure nobody will mind that much. That is my awesome idea to get rid of trash from being in the street.

  71. Sara F

I think that there should be required sidewalks in every neighborhood. For example, my cousin is learning how to ride a bike and they have no sidewalks. It can be difficult and dangerous on the street because of all the cars driving by and the streets aren’t perfectly even.

  72. Marjorie B

Maybe why people don’t vote is because they’re bed ridden, have children, or work too many hours of the day? Maybe if people were able to vote in the comforts of their home or office by computer there would be more voters out there.

  73. Georgia B.

I think that any less fortunate kid should be able to get free sports practice at a place with other kids that have the same problem. That way they’re not envying the other kids…. I would feel really sad :(

  74. Jacqualine

I think that we should have a place just for people to walk. No bikes, cars, trucks, or things that can run over us. This could help those that need a place to get away, somewhere to walk around, or to help calm down those that are stressed. Maybe somewhere that would be quiet too.

  75. Georgia B.

I think that there should be an animal center for abused :( animals where anyone can go and play with them because those poor animals had no love and appreciation from their previous owners. I feel so bad for them and I like start crying everytime I see those commercials.

  76. Jonathan A.

I believe that a good way to add a positive effect to our community would be to change how we use are resources around us. Many people use large amounts of energy that may endanger our lack of energy in many ways like running out of fuels, like fossil fuels, which can power many things like light and power. But, the crisis is also a contributer of fossil fuel running out. The link bellow tells of ways to conserve energy to allow us to not only save fossil fuels but also help us get rid of some pollution crisis.
    http://www.northlandsnewscenter.com/news/video/Climate-Idol-Saving-Energy-119399254.html

  77. Sarah A.(:

Right now there is a lot of liter on the streets, forest preserves, and on our sidewalks right outside our homes. It is affecting our environment in so many ways such as animals. What we can do is take a little bit of our time to go out and simply pick it up.

  78. Marjorie B

it is not possible to do that tyler innocent people go to jail but they get out eventually and bad people all die in the end so what is the point.

  79. A typical election FOR the voters BY the voters!!! So I think that we should all take part in voting. Probabally because you can’t complain if who you like isn’t picked because you didn’t vote (good job NOT)!!! In the article I read 92 voters showed up to vote, which is supposidly more than usual!!!! Don’t you think there’s a problem with that?!?!?!? Well, I’m teling you right now that is a problem!!! I think most voters don’t vote because they don’t know the candidates. I think we should make a website for voters so they are informed and vote!!!So all in all vote for the pretty greek boy!!!

  80. Saima K.

Every year, near September, our church and other churches in IL go to the Partnership Walk. Before the event, many people make groups and sell items like bracelets, cookies, headbands, and auctions to raise money. the money goes to an organization called AKDN (Aga Khan Development Network). This organization branches off into many more like FOCUS, which prepares people for natural disasters and helps people who have been in them, Aga Khan Foundation, which helps people in poverty, and Aga Khan Education Board, which helps people in their schools, in Africa or the USA. All the money collected goes to these funds. The group that collects the most money gets iPods, laptops or savings funds, for the whole group. then we all walk one mile, get lunch, and have FUN!!!!. there is entertainment, games and even a petting zoo!!
We could probably do one in the district.

  81. Mike T

This is an article on how the Fox Valley Park District encompasses at least 30 potential sites for starting controlled fires. This article sparks ideas that we can do to help our environment like they are. For example we can clean up parks, plant new trees, ride our bikes instead of our parents cars, clean up trash or don’t litter. Nut the most important I think is cleaning up parks. Why you ask… Well I’ll tell you. Once upon a time, 4 years ago I went to a park on a rainy day for Cub Scouts near Eisenhower Jr High and was told to clean it up. Once I cleaned up the most I could Michael S. and I explored further into the brush to find more garbage. Once we came to a muddy swamp we looked around and saw a bright orange thing sticking out of the water. I ran to get it and when I pulled it up I found out that it was a construction horse. Then I found other weird things… But that’s another story. I think that we should protect this environment more than we are doing right now. We should put garbage and recycle bins (implanted in the ground so raccoons don’t knock it over) everywhere. Here’s the link

Our church has a program called P.A.D.S. This is an organization where ordinary people like you and me help out at a church in Aurora/Naperville that bakes, serves and provides a place to sleep in the night. The next day they are woken up and given breakfast and lunch and brought on their way. The little children even get goodie bags! I think that this is a great program but the only problem is they don’t get alot of money. I think that our school could either raise or donate money and toys to my church to help this program last. This is because the people that run the church don’t like the homeless people their which I can’t understand. I think it would be a great idea to do this and help the homeless.

I know that all those kids are right and we can make the world way better than it is now if everyone does a little bit.

  84. steven m

its true that trans fat kills alot of people. My uncle died from eating too much transfat about 2 years ago.

  85. Nick Klecki 2

I think this shows kids can make a difference in their community by doing something about problems. Kids can talk to adults and principals about problems concerning the community so they can make a difference

  86. Jax B.

I like that it showed places all over the world and it showed some of the problems of those places. Also i liked that the people weren’t fighting each other because of their religion or the color of their skin. I loved that the kids were believing in themselves that they could change their home and maybe even the world.

  87. Pimaa M.

I thought the video was good. it brought up a lot of good points and stuff. im glad that students can actually make a change in the world or nation or county.

  88. Kally S.

This is showing how different countries live and what there goals are to change there countries!!!!! :)

  89. Andrew

kids help the world by fundrasers and other ways that raise money for people around the world such as SHD

  90. matthew smiles

the kids help the countries become a better place and helping kids build a world were they would want to live in

  91. Kyle Brindac

Young people are the new adults. We must change the world to how we want it for when we become adults. There is always room for improvement, so we much change the world.

  92. jeff s.

The video showed how different races of peolpe are trying to survive and it brought up points in how we should help them and thats good

  93. Sean b

People in Ross Bothia are protesting for clean water, so if they work hard they could get what they want.

  94. Gabby h.

    Kyle Brindac :
Young people are the new adults. We must change the world to how we want it for when we become adults. There is always room for improvement, so we much change the world.

    very true

  95. marissa

that things like project challenge are happening all over the world and if children work together we can be as powerful as adults

  96. Joey James

kids have powerfull voices that we can use to change the world. if we all work together and change it. WHO IS IN?

  97. arabella

i think the video shows what change is being done and needs to be done in the world. the kids in the video really motivate you to do something about the community.

  98. Leah ;)

I really like that nothing brings these kids down. They never point out any negatives, only positives. Also they pick out something that effects them all in one way or another (instead of just picking something that only one or two people have in common. They want to make the biggest dent they can and I admire that!!

  99. marissa

    marissa :
that things like project challenge are happening all over the world and if children work together we can be as powerful as adults

i meant project citizen not challenge

  100. Natalia P(:

Kids can do many different things for their countries and communities that make a big difference!! They wanted to help with drunk driving! THEY PASSED A DRUNK DRIVING BILL!!! To lower the drink rate! WOOHOO!(:

  101. Carolyn W

It is really amazing how different the goals for different countries are, it really show cultural diversity. Also, the kids are very motivated and nothing brings them down….They only point out positives. The goals are very diffcult to achieve, yet they still do.

  102. Tyler Felske

I think it is great that they are inspired that they need to step up and make our country Great. :)

  103. Prince B.

I now believe that us kids or young people can the world for the better and take charge for ourselves. KIDS ROCK AND ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!

  104. evan b

The kids are determined to change the way they live. they get involved with the government and trying to change the problems in thier everyday life. This truly shows the power of young people.

  105. Stephanie W

What I liked about the movie is that they are taking action and making things happen, instead of not doing anything.

  106. Eric bennett

we kids are just as strong as adults and we should try to end the bad things in the world. such as crime and poverty, water pollution, and wars

  107. Sheryl J.

I learned that kids can help our world to become a better place to live. Kids all over the world want to change there community, weather its how they live or to help people that are around them.

  108. Prince B.

I now believe that us kids or young people can CHANGE the world for the better and take charge for ourselves. KIDS ROCK AND ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!

  109. Gabby h.

the kids in the columbia place are trying to get a town constitution. i think this is a good idea because they can limit the amount of horse races and waste dumped

  110. Kristen b

I think that this video shows how much kids can make an impact on the world. When there is a problem they can talk to someone about it and make a difference in daily lives.

  111. Julia L

special needed people should be treated the same as everyone else and do the same activities so they dont feel left out or neglected.

  112. Cameron H

Adults are not the only ones who can help the world us kids have many opportunities to help the world. It is our job to use those opportunities for the common good of our nation.

  113. Sharon T

Right at the moment my church was planning on making a donation in which you give money and anotherone that you give your old glasses that you don’t use. the whole purpose of this is that they will give the money and remake the glasses for the poor kids like us in Africa. What a great idea, don’t you think!

  114. Taylor Koutny (:

i like how commited that one girl was to change the way we live. when she said “we cant just let adults control us and say “well heres the world and this is how your going to live it, NO, its heres our world and this is how we’re gonna live it” i think she said SOMETHING like that, but it was really inspiring:) i also like how commited these people are to the way we live, and other people too. there like getting into meetings trying to change the way we live. i also think its really sad how people in (i think it was..) africa have to drink from the same water source. when i saw them standing in the river with there bare feet, and just gravving buckets of water to drink it was really sad. i cant image drinking someone elses feet germs.. ?? i feel erally bad for them, so i think that we should go to africa, or wherever they have to do that, and supply them with CLEAN water. maybe like a water tower??? or something that something they dont have to worry about getting a disease from it.. ALSO, my mom and dad support 3 children in africa. we give them a certain amount of money every month to help supply them with clean clothes, food, water, and shelter. it makes me happy to know that SOMEHOW im helping someone in need. also, i wish that we can help make the way we live and other people live better, just like the people in the video. they seem to be really commited (like i already said) to help. i wish that our school could come together and do the same. its for the better. :)
    -taylorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr<3 ahhahaha.

  115. shaliyah

All nation have there own problems. But they are all getting involved with it along with the government, even the kids and teens. Its really inspiring to everyone including the kids and teens in the U.S.A. They also take part in whats going on around them.

  116. zack j

I like how the 2 girls were so deticTED TO TURNING THE WORLD AROUND AND IF WE ALL DID THAT THAT MAYA ACTUALLY HAPPEN AND THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE

  117. Max M

A person with with three DUIs was still driving. That shouldn’t happen. And kids lowered the alcohol level from 0.5(2.5 drinks) to 0.25(1.5 drinks)

  118. Deepthi

I thinhk its awesome they wanna take a stand!!! Its there life they can what ever they want…..p.s….INDIAN PEOPLE RULE!!!!!!!:)

  119. Emily Q

I think it’s really cool that such young kids like our age, can change laws by doing what they believe in like the drinking limit to drive!

  120. Micah G

I think it’s amazing how if we cooperate we can make things happen. I also think we should get together with our ideas for the community.

  121. Maggie S

Everyone should try doing something to help other people, even if it is just giving a few dollars to a charity. If we all just gave a little, it would make a big difference!

  122. Danny S.

More communities should work together to make the would a better place for the children of the future to live.

  123. Nicole

I like how the 2 girls were really involved in wanting to make better changes in their community and how kids wanted to work and set goals in restoring monuments

  124. Rhiann Robson

The idea to add special needs kids into normal classes is really good. Also the school lunches would be a lot better if there were more healthy choices and the fruit was better/fresher.

  125. Max M

In India, the people got together to clean up and beautify(is that a word?) the important monuments that had been in ruin

  126. Alana C

I thought it was nice to see all of those kids trying to preserve and restore all of the monuments around them.

  127. Austin R

why would trash be left by one of there own monuments? but kids are trying to help clean the trash, good for them!

  128. erin

i think alot of these ideas are really cool. and its important for kids to be a part of thier community because in a few years they might be a big part of it

  129. evan b

children shouldnt be abused/hit at all, and that includes the classroom. hitting children is not discipline: its child abuse and it is uncivilized and just wrong.

  130. jake g

i think this video shows how kids can really make a difference in this world and how kids, really are, the future of this world because if one kid says “hey wen you burn this, it smells good” (kids follow each other A LOT!)whatever they are burning could be releasing poison gases into the o-zone layer and making the hole bigger, faster!

  131. Julie D

I think that everyone should help with their community. Like the people in the video, we should all clean up and make the world a better place to live in.

  132. Jilly! ;)

the quote that the one girl gave about “instead of the adults saying this the world we have to live in” or something like that n we have to take control n step up! Really made me think that u would say 90% of us sit at home watch tv n do things for ourselves when we could be help the less fortunate ppl! provide clean water for other countries that don’t have clean water! there are plenty of organizations that make that it possibly. i know my skating team did a service project that we sent pajamas and the organization sent them all over the world. just little things like that could do soo much for other people! i think we should try to have a project like that ever year in our school kinda of like we did last year “ride Janie ride” we were helping someone in need and having fun at the same time!!!!!!
    -jilllllly!!!! ;) <3 <3 <3

  133. Mackenzie A

The video was pretty goood and im glad that the kids in it are taking action to help their communities.

  134. Peter Szpytek

I think we need to clean water in different countries because if people drink bad water then they will get very sick. I like how the kids said that we need to take initiative and say stop this, this is the world that you’re giving us you messed it up so you’ll help fix it. I think we should help protect innocent towns from massacres and (lets say) tiny genocides. We should also be helping with making monuments look nice and fixing them up a bit, making them a big deal. This next idea is a little strange and a little weird but we should have as to say designated protectors who would protect other students from pain caused by another student. They would be not known to other people so they wouldn’t be just another teachers pet so that if someone was getting bullied then they could help out and protect someone at a moments notice…..yep

  135. HANNAH S

i think kids of all ages can have a big impact on the world. I think that they can make big changes if they put some effort into it. I think it is awesome that kids all over the world are making an effort to change the world. GO KIDS!!!!!(:

  136. Yvonne S

I like how all the kids speak different languages in this video
…Luckily, they all are translated. ;)

  137. Patrickk

i think that these kids are really inspirational and that they are never will give up until the problem is fixed

  138. Yvonne S

I think it’s amazing what these kids are doing. They are teaching what they know, and afterwards, they help resolve issues, or at least try to(with the gov’t).

  139. Ally

I like the idea of making food a LOT healthier! I also think that we should stop drinking and driving! IT NEEDS TO STOP!!!!

  140. marisa c

I think Drunk Driving is a thing that needs to be fixed. People who drunk drive can seriously injure or kill others and themselves. The lady in the video explained how she was hit by a drunk driver and she was reported dead on the scene. The fact that the people thought she was dead and she wasnt, says that she must have been really hurt. Many people die from drunk driving and it is a thing we need to stop!

  141. SAM D

I like how all the people are friends even though some of them have disabilities and how they care for them

  142. Sean R

I think it is great that kids from religions who once were at war with each other, have come together for what is best for their peers. All of their peers.

  143. Claudia

I think we should try to get people to stop littering. It only hurts the environment. we should put more garbage cans around the town, and have people go clean up the trash.

  144. Jenna S.

My thoughts on the drunk driving story: I think that’s great that the kids are banning together to stop the accidents caused by drunk driving. To prevent drunk driving when older: If a friend is drunk(GOD FORBID!)call your parents to pick you up or suggest to drive!!!!

  145. Yvonne S

what these kids are doing really makes a difference… this is the kind of work our make a difference club should be involved in.

  146. Lara P.

I think it’s very inspirational that these kids can band together to solve problems the world has without judging each other on their differences. It’s very courageous for them to get involved with the government to try and change their community, country, or the world so that it can be a better and safer place. I think that is definitely special that kids can do that and I think everyone could try to make the world a better place if they tried. :)

  147. marisa c

I think its great how young kids like us are participating in helping our world become a better/heathier place for everyone.

  148. Julia Poska

the kids who want disabled kids in regular classes are awesome for trying, but they’re forgetting that the disabled kids are in the other classes because that’s how they will learn better. My brother has special needs, and if he were put in a regular class he just wouldn’t be able to do the work. So the kids are right that they’re not so different, but i don’t think that disabled kids should be in regular classes.

  149. megan s

i think its horrible that kids are being hit because they did something wrong. they are trying as hard as they can and its just wrong

  150. Lisa

I think it’s great how it’s all of the kids that are helping out in their community because a lot of us think that we can’t do anything for our community because we are kids.

  151. Lara P.

I think it’s cool that the kids are going around interviewing people about problems in their community. I didn’t know teen gambling was such a problem in other countries. I’m not sure if it’s a problem in the US too…

  152. larissa

Drunk driving is the most dangerous problem in the United States. Russia’s problem was gambling clubs. This is very interesting. :)

  153. Lisa

I think it’s great how it’s all of the kids that are helping out in their community because a lot of us think that we can’t do anything for our community because we are kids

  154. Julia Poska

i’m glad that we don’t have as big of a teen gambling problem here. i mean casinos and slot machines EVERYWHERE! No wonder it’s such an issue.

  155. megan s

clean drinking water is something that everyone should have. i think its terrible that some people dont have it.

  156. Cyrus S

I like how so many kids and teens around us everywhere are getting involved and actively participating in events to help our community because this generation of teens and kids are the World’s future. If we are not educated on what needs to happen, things are not going to go our way. Participating in this group helps kids understnad what is happening around us, and that gives them the ability to help out. These kids are taking the initiative and trying their best to understand and find a solution to the problems around us. The fact that these kids have so much commitment and dedication and take the time to volunteer and help out with things is pretty cool. These kids are using the power they were given to do something great. I think its cool how these kids try to find the problems around them and try to find everyday problems and try to solve them by doing research and surveying people. I like this group because of the fact because it teaches kids how to be leaders.

  157. Georgia B.

I think it’s really bad that there’s like a slot machine or casino on every corner in some cities. It’s also sad that some people are killed in wars that are completely innocent.

  158. christian neverfindanotherquitelike square

i love to see all the nations together like from corea, and south africa

  159. Georgia B.

I think that there should be a show made by kids where they talk about all the world’s problems because I’m sure a lot of adults would listen to kids more than other adults.

  160. Anthony Masello

That is crazy how she survived the car crash even after she was announcerd dead at the sean that is pretty cool

  161. Willyyyyyyyyyy H

For kids to go out and try to change how we live everyday and tackle some hard problems like trying to make the water clean to drink is amazing to me and shows great courage.

  162. Leanna I. p.8

I like how the kids are trying to change the point where u can drive and have had a drink because i know that sometimes I get scared when I feel or know there’s a drunk driver around me because that shouldn’t be a reason why others should die/be affected by someone elses choice.

  163. Jonathan Alvarez

I believe that the kids who are trying to make these differences are inspirational in ways to solve the worlds problems. They are brave to help with doing stuff to stop problems like drunk driving, water preservation, and helping their community become better. It is a good act that will help them be safer like having clean water to help save lives instead of dirty water that animals drink from.

  164. Cassidy Dresden

I think it’s great that kids can still have friends even though they have a different culture & a different way with things.

  165. BRADLEY MISKUS

WE SHOULD ADD ANOTHER STEP FOR A BILL TO GET PAST. LIKE ANOTHER SENATE BUT ALL KIDS 13-17 BECAUSE THE BILL WILL AFFECT US MORE THAN ANY ONE.

  166. Jonathan A

I believe that the surrounding people should have a greater tendency to listen to kids help make large differences.

  167. Sarah Alfini(:

I like how kids are really working hard and together to make their communities better. It’s really sad how there is a lot of people that are drinking and causing bad accidents but at the same time kids are coming together to try to fix that problem.

  168. Leanna I. p.8

I think all wars in the world should stop because what’s the point of making bombs to kill humans that have a life& family that love them and then they die for no reason, its not fair to people and why can’t countries/ continents try making agreements to not fight or work together for things.

  169. christian no other like square

i would like to major on other languages to communicate with others,i only know 1 launguage!!!!!english….smh

  170. Patrick (GO RED TEAM) Mitchell

Some kids think that monuments should be kept clean and beautiful and they’re right

  171. Georgia B.

I agree that drunk driving is really bad. On my way home from dance last week, my carpool buddy’s mom was driving behind a drunk driver (along with me in the car), and it was really scary because the person was weaving in and out of lanes and almost hitting the cars in the next lane over. I felt bad for the people in the next lane over because they could’ve gotten hurt or killed. That’s why we went two lanes over. But I think something should really be done to prevent drunk driving like having more police on the highway at night because no one drinks and drives in the middle of the day, especially on a weekday.

  172. Anthony Masello

I Think Thier should be A HUGE STATE 4 imagrents only and they wont have to worry about learning a new language so they can speak their own language :)

  173. I think that because some countries are so poor, we should donate and help them out more. We are a pretty wealthy country and have our own problems but some places have bigger problems. If we would just give a little more to some countries, the world would be a healthier safer place. Also, some countries really need our help and we waste a lot. I think that we should recycle more because we tend to throw everything out. If the US would become less selfish, the whole world would be better.

  174. bradley miskus

we should have a kid senate just for passing bills ages 13-17 because it affects us the most

  175. Marjorie

These wars are leaving kids with no family and homes, if we recieve products from china, Tiland, and other countries why are we in war with other countries? If we help undeveloped countries, develope there may be more gas for cars, more food for families. Why can’t we all just share and be friendly. There are imigrants from countries who are at war with us, they live in the US, Illinois, in Chicago, and in Downers Grove but then why can’t we get along with the actual country they are from?

  176. Leanna I. p.8

I also think if all continents/ countries try agreeing with each other we could help out if natural disasters happen such as what happened in Japan, so all countries know that we all have their back if something like that happens. Also I think kids should be friends or be allowed to have friends of other religion or race so they can learn how they live or try new things.

  177. Meg W

I think its good that kids are fighting all over the world to make things better. In India kids are trying to help neglected monuments. In Kotage kids are helping silversmiths, and in Jordan children are trying to eliminate school violence. Its horable how teachers hit kids, in Jordan, when they forget there homework.

  178. Rachel D

If because of drinking this is happening drinking should be banned and its a realy good thing that these kids have the hearts for a change. I also think that these children are just tryiing to make this world a better place and they aremaking a huge diffrence that will later on be and is a benefit

  179. Georgia B.

I think it’s cool that some people practice their religion so freely and aren’t ashamed of speaking their language or being whatever religion they are.

And it was sad when the girl said that when she misbehaves, her mom locks her in a room.

  180. conner M

I think sports in junior high should icorperate the lessons somehow by th teachers giving extra lessons. For example Mr. Little can make a GAME OUT OF knowing and paying attention and reward the players for knowing their stuff. This will help because the players will learn by doing stuff they love, to learn!
