We all know that politicians have built careers are stretching truths. They exaggerate their own achievements and manipulate those of their opponents until they look like atrocities. Many pass this off as “oh, well – they all do.” Many more just become immune to it and assume either a) everyone lies, so it’s no big deal, or b) everyone lies, so I believe nothing. Both can lead to big, big sins as members of this democratic society – voter apathy and ignorant votes. Therefore, with this election season in full post-convention, post-VP, post-labor day swing, I give you factcheck.org, a non-partisan, unbiased collection of information that debunks many things Biden, Palin, Obama, and McCain say. It’s very informative, and I recommend this to parents as much as students (and even fellow teachers). Before you get stuck on the idea that Sarah Palin was a member of a secessionist party, that Barack Obama is a Muslim, that either candidate is an agent of change, or what all of those promises mean, check out factcheck.org. It’s a great site, and headed to the links immediately.
I especially like the Ask Fact Check section!
